My Story
I'm Kelly Walker, and my journey as a Chartered Professional Accountant has been shaped by a desire for flexibility, family, and community involvement. Since November 1, 2010, I've been working from home, not only to be available for my kids' activities but also to create a work environment that aligns with my values.
The Journey to Independence
The decision to work from home wasn't just about convenience; it was a quest for independence. I wanted to be my own boss, to dictate my hours without the constraints of a traditional office setting. Though my kids have moved out, I still cherish the freedom and flexibility that working from home provides.
Community at the Heart of it All
- Beyond the world of numbers and financial statements, community engagement holds a special place in my heart. Volunteering has been a significant part of my life, and I've been fortunate to contribute in various capacities. For a decade, I served as the treasurer for the Kelowna & District Genealogical Society, and I also took on the role of treasurer for Les Petits Oursons preschool.
- My involvement extends to the schools, where I've worn many hats – from teacher's assistant in the sewing room to a regular PAC member. Field trips became a bit more exciting with me behind the wheel as the carpool driver, and during the holiday season, I've wrapped Christmas presents for families facing challenges.
- I proudly carry the title of a Telus Community Ambassador, volunteering for various activities in and around Kelowna. Presently, my focus is on giving back as a UBC Alumni, particularly at graduation celebrations. It's my way of staying connected and contributing to the communities that have played a crucial role in my personal and professional life.
